I discovered Sean Lennon's MySpace [myspace.com/seanonolennon] page a month and a half or so ago with the pleasant surprise that he has a new album coming out in September called
Friendly Fire.
I just got the itch to make an entry about this when looking at his music info on the page where there is a "Sounds like" category and Sean wrote
Sounds Like The demise of a relationship as perceived by a white gardenia blossom sitting unnoticed in a cup of rain water.
which I find very amusing. :)
The first single is called
Dead Meat and he has a copy streaming on the page. It seems like a dreary song but I think it's really about justice, "getting what you deserve." I look forward to seeing the music video. There's a trailer for the album also found from his myspace page.
A little history:
Back when I was first collecting the Beatles 13 albums and singles in 1997-98 Sean Lennon [who is John Lennon's son with Yoko Ono] released his first album
Into the Sun.
{Tangent: Julian Lennon, John's son with Cynthia, also released an album called Photograph Smile --we'll have to talk about this one another time.} I remember the music video for
Home, the first single of
Into the Sun being on MTV but I never caught it in its entirety. The next Sean Lennon interaction was through a friend's sister who met him backstage some place [hah]. Then one day I saw
Into the Sun on clearance at Best Buy for 7.50.. ouch.
Fast forward to junior year of university life and I bought
Into the Sun off eBay for maybe the same price and I loved it.
Two Fine Lovers [I had a penchant for playing ironic songs of situations],
Bathtub ["When there's falling rain on the ground, never let it bring you down, I wish you were around"], and
Breeze [played with the idea of obsession --"I can't ever forget about"], were my favorites. I also loved
Queue, Photosynthesis (a crazy instrumental), Part One of the Cowboy Trilogy, Mystery Juice, Into the Sun, Home, Wasted and the whole rest of the album.
The new album's title, "Friendly Fire" --it really brings about that sense of betrayal, that you've been "shot" by your own side..
Sean Lennon - Dead MeatDead Meat, don't you know you're dead meat
You're gonna get what you deserve, get what you deserve
Now is an exciting time with Sean Lennon having a new album, Dhani Harrison starting to write music, and Julian Lennon conjurging up some new music too.
